About The Artist
I am a poet and conceptual abstract artist living and creating in the mountains of Vail, Colorado. Originally from Santa Barbara, California I moved to the Rocky Mountains in 1989 where I worked for a couple decades as a wedding and event planner. I am a Mama of three spectacular humans, and when not utterly covered in paint I enjoy road cycling, snowboarding and paddle-boarding.
I'm inspired by alpine life; the trees, the dappled sunlight, the rivers and lakes. I started my artistic life as a writer, and often write poetry into the background of my paintings, the process of creating the art allows me to process and externalize feelings and ideas. I am working on a few pieces specifically for the La Quinta Art Celebration that incorporate my natural handwriting and original poetry, with acrylic paint, metal leafing and mixed materials, to create dramatic statement pieces.
Trees have long been a theme in my life. I enjoy the symbolism; the rooting, the reaching, the growing, the connectedness of the groves, the parallels in that they are the lungs of our planet, and resemble our very own bronchioles with their branches and root systems, the resemblance to our circulatory systems, and the metaphor of the family tree. My abstract work allows color, texture, negative space to tell the story, playing with graduated focus, vignetting and reflected light.
